In 2006, I exhibited a small series at Café Gold (March–May): portraits of people I photographed during my travels. The images are digitally altered. At first glance, they seem marked by scars or burns, but look closer and you'll find flowers – delicate, soft, entwined with skin. A play between beauty and damage, illusion and truth.
A piercing gaze; the face appears scarred – but on closer inspection, it’s covered with flowers. The portrait’s vulnerability is deepened by the layering of skin and nature. Beauty and estrangement blend seamlessly.
